| TOURISM CITY "CANAKKALE" IS ON PROGRESS |
| Canakkale Deputy Mehmeh Danis told that Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park has great importance for AK Party Government, and they have already invested around 23 Milion USD in the last 3 years with regards the long term development project of the Gallipoli Peninsula. Deputy Danis told that Canakkale with its almost 5000 years old ancient history and impressive historical sites has an incredible potential for tourism. Deputy Danis added that considering the high potential of Canakkale, leveraging the facilties of the city carries a cruial importance for the future of Canakkale. Doing so, AK Party Government considers Canakkale as one of the most critical places for culture and tourism investments. Deputy Danis stated that particularly Gallipoli Peninsula has a crucial importance in their investments of Canakkale. Deputy Danis told that Prime Minister Tayip ERDOGAN has launced a committee in the parliment in order to support the long term develeopment project of the Gallipoli Peninsula. Deputy Danis told that it is planned to invest 100 Milion USD for the development of the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical Natiŭonal Park, and about 23 Milion USD have already been invested in the past 3 years. In the concept of the development of the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park, the excact locations of the 28 real war cemetries have been identified, 3 of them have been restorated in oder to reflect its original form. Deputy Danis added that the rest of the restoration of the identified war cemetiries would be finished soon. |
| THE PRIME MINISTRY HAS TAKEN ACTION FOR THE ANZAC ROAD |
| After the news of Canakkale Travel with regards to the high deformation of the roads in the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park, the Government representitives of the Prime Ministry has taken action in order to improve the situation. Envoirement and Forest Ministry, Nature Protection and Natural Parks General Manager, Professor Mustafa Kemal YALINKILIC, told that the improvement Project of the roads on the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park had been suspended by the order of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while %60 of the Project had been completed. Mr YALINKILIC pointed the main reason under this high deformation as the suspension of the road improvement project last year. Mr YALINKILIC added that hard weather conditions in this winter has also worsened the situation. With the current order of the Prime Minister Mr Tayip ERDOGAN, the road improvement project of the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park has been started full time. Mr YALINKILIC told that they are working very hard in order to complete the improvement project of the roads in the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park before the Anzac Day 2006. |
| AUSTRALIAN CONSULATE HAS BEEN LAUNCHED IN CANAKKALE |
| Australian Consulate has been launhced in Canakkale in its temporary office in Kolin Hotel. After the openning, Peter Rennert, Australian Consul of Canakkale, Defence Attaché Colonel Enrico Casagrande and Australian Ambassador Jean Dunn have performed a visit to the Canakkale Governor, Orhan KIRLI. Amassador DUNN told that openning an Australian Consulate in Canakkale can be considered as the most important sign of our interest to Canakkale. Ambassador DUNN added that we have very strong relationships in Canakkale, and we would like to make them even more stronger with the openning of the new consulate. Ambassodor DUNN stated that the new Australian Consulate in Canakkale would help the coordination of the Anzac Day Ceremonies, and would strenghten the relationships between Canakkale andAustralia. The Canakkale Consul of Australian Consulate, Peter Rennert told that both countries have very important values in these lands, and mentioned his happiness with regards to the kind invitation of Governor KIRLI. Canakkale Consul RENNERT told that they are still searching for a suitable building in Canakkale for the permanent residance of the Australian Consulate and told that they are working temporary in an office in Kolin Hotel. Governor KIRLI told that they are also very happy for the openning of the Australian Consulate in Canakkale, and they would be in touch very closely in the coordination of Anzac Day and any other ceremonies and celebrations with regards to Australian Citizens. |
| THE RESEARCH OF ANZAC PRISONERS OF WAR |
| In the concept of the cooperation between Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University (COMU) of Turkey and Sydney University of Australia, The Research Of Anzac Prisoners Of War in the Gallipoli Campaign has been conducted by the academician Jenifer Lawless. In the press meeting, which was held in the Ibrahim Bodur Innovation Center of COMU, Ms Jennifer Lawless told that she has been in here to perform a deep research on Anzac Prisoners of War in Turkey. Ms Lawless added that this issue has never been studied before, and she thought that the research would be the Pioneer in this field 90 years after the Gallipoli Campaign. Ms Lawless stated that although she is Australian, her wife is Turkish and this would make the context of the study more interesting. Ms Lawless told that the research would be influnced both from Turkish and Australian History Literature. Ms Lawless added that she has been studying on this research for 5 years and would be in Turkey for 4 months in order to expand her studies. Ms Lawless told that after finalising the research, she would publish her studies in a book. Ms Lawless stated that she has impressed with the kind behaviours of Turkish Soldiers and Turkish Commanders to the Anzac Prisoners of War during the Gallipoli Campaign. |
| 91TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ANZAC DAY CELEBRATION IN THE GALLIPOLI PENINSULA WAS HELD |
| 91th anniversary of the Anzac Day Celebrations was held in the Historical National Gallipoli Peninsula Park. Thousands of Australian, New Zealand and Turkish Citezens met in the Historical Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25, 2006. About 8 thousand Australian and Zealand Citizen including goverment represesntives attended the Dawn Service in the Anzac Cove. At 05.30 a.m. the Dawn Service of the 91th anniversary of the Anzac Day get started with 1 minute silence in order to show the respect to the hereos of the Anzac Landing. After lifting the Turkish, Australian, and New Zealand flags up to the pole, speeches mentionning the importance of the Anzac Day was performed. After the speeches, the Dawn Service was performed with respect to Australian and New Zealand soldiers who lost their lifes in the Gallipoli Campaign. Australia General Governor, Micheal Jeffery, President of New Zealand House of Representitives, Margaret Wilson, Military Attaché of Canada, Yvan Houle, The Turkey Ambassador of France, Jean Christophe Peaucelle, Marine Forces Commander of Australia, Russ Shallden, Vice Governor of Canakkale, Hasan Senses and many other official representives have attended celebration ceremonies of the 91th anniversary of the Anzac Day. After the Dawn Service, ceremonies in the Australia Monument, 57th Division Monument, and New Zealand Monument were held. Several Australian and New Zealand Citezens who have attened the 91 th Anniversary of the Anzac Day Ceremonies expressed to be in the Gallipoli Peninsula for Anzac Day as an unforgettable wonderful experience. |
| CTSO START WORKING ON ACTIVATION OF CANAKKALE AIRPORT |
| Canakkale Chamber of Commerce (CTSO), start working on activation of Canakkale Airport. Doing so the representives of CTSO started negotiations with private airline companies in order to start up regular flights to Canakkale. The president of CTSO, Ilahami Tezcan told that, they have been working for the activation fo Canakkale Airport for a long time. Mr Tezcan added that in order to fullfill the conditons for passenger airplane landing, they have also increased the fire safety category from grade 4 to grade 7 with the assistance of the Canakkale Deputy Mehmet Danis. Mr Tezcan told that they are still carrying on negeotiations with Atlas Jet. Mr Tezcan told that Atlas Jet would start its regular flights to Edremit, a touristical town close to Canakkale, on June 1, 2006. Mr Tezcan also told that they have assigned Mr Hayrettin Dereli in order to pepare the feasibility report for the Canakkale Airport. Mr Tezcan stressed the importance of airline conncetion to Canakkale from other cities and told that they would work hard in order to achieve this project. |

| Historical Bazaar with mirrors can be considered as one of the most attractive places to visit in Canakkale. The chief of Canakkale Muniplicity, Ulgur GOKHAN told that, the restoration work have been started 4 years ago with the 11 shops facing to Inonu Street. In the second phase, the restoration of 32 shops in addition to 15 new shops is being processed. It is expected to start the final phase of the bazaar in September or October. It is expected to complete the restoration of the Canakkale" Historical Bazaar on March 18, 2007, the celebration of Canakkale Naval Victory. |

| Grand Assos Hotel, which is located by the shores of the ancient city Assos, has been completely renovated after the administrationchange in the begining of 2005. The new owner of the hotel for 8 years, Bayram Cafer ERTEN, told that after a 3 months hard work for renovation, they are ready for the 2005 summer season. In the openning ceromony of Grand Assos Hotel, The Governor, Suleyman KAMCI, told that these kind of nice investments would always be encouraged by the local and national authorities. | Head of MNG Holding Tourism Group, Huseyin BARANER, streessed the importance of the ancient city Troia in his feature in the Tage Zeitung Newspaper. Mr BARANER also mentioned their new strategy in promoting the values of Canakkale. In the new strategy ancient Troia will be used one of the strongest theme. Mr BARANER proposed the "All inclusive" system in a wider scope in terms of regional. In the concept of regional all inclusive, tourists would take their accomodation as bed and breakfast in the hotels, and take their lunches and dinners in the restaurants around the city with coupons provided by the travel agency. Mr Baraner told that all touristical investments will benefit from this strategy. Mr Baraner also added that in August they are going to orginise a meeting called "Peace and Tourism in Canakkale" with archaeologists and politicians. |

In his private gallery there are about 8 thousand objects with regards to Gallipoli Campaign. Several guests such as the chief of Canakkale Muniplicity, and The Governor attended the openning ceromony. Ahmet USLU thanked the local authorities for their support in openning his gallery. Mr USLU told that he has been collecting objects with regards to Gallipoli Campaign for about 20 years, and he is now very glad to achieve his ideal of his life. |
| RUSSIAN MEMORIAL WILL BE BUILT IN THE GALLIPOLI TOWN |
| It is annouced that preliminary work in order to build a Russian Memorial in the Gallipoli Town is completed. The chief of Gallipoli Muniplicity,Cihat BINGOL, told that they have come to a conclusion with the Russian delegates in order to build a Russian Memorial devoted to the 25 thousand Russsian who came to Gallipoli Town between the years 1920 and 1921. After revolution in Russia between 1917-1918, about 25 thousand Czar supporters had escaped from the region to the Gallipoli Town. Later on, several Russian familes lived together in peace in the Gallipoli Town. | The Police Directorship of Canakkale has appointed a bike team working as tourism police in the summer season. | After the start of the road development project in the Historical Gallipoli National Park, Australian Government decided to appoint a delagate in order to inspect the work on the historical peninsula. After the inspection of the Australian War Monuments Bureau, it is annouced that a delagate from the Australian Government will be sent to Ankara in order to inspect the work on the historical Gallipoli Peninsula. It is told that the mission of the delagate would be to co-operate with the Turkish delagates in order to inspect the road development work on the historical peninsula in order to prevent any hazard on the field. |

| The chief of Kepez Muniplicity of Canakkale, Ismail Yasar OGUZCAN, told that, The grand harbour in the Kepez village of Canakkale would be ready to serve for any type of ships and cruises on August 2005. It is told that the foundation of the harbour was laid in 1995 and completed in 1999. The work of upper infrastructure was put out to tender, and the contracter company "Kolin Group" laid the foundation of the upper infrastructure in May,2004. | Minister of Communications, Binali YILDIRIM, visited the Gokceada Island for investigation of the problems. Minister YILDIRIM firstly visited the construction work of Gokceada airport. The chief of Canakkale Culture and Tourism Directorship, Ismail KANSIZ, told that "in the last 1 year, Canakkale is attracting increasing numbers of tourists from all over the world. Mr KANSIZ also added that "In 2004, the number of the total visitors to Troia was 204.309. This number has already been passed in the first 5 months of 2005." | 18 Delagates consisting of bureaucrats and businessmen from Gumi, South Korea have visited Gallipoli town of Canakkale in order to know how the muniplicity services in Turkey. The delegates told that they are both visiting the impressive sites of Turkey and would like to see the muniplicity services in Turkey. In their trip, the Korean Delagates visited Cappadocia, Konya, Antalya, ancient city Troia, Canakkale and finally the town Gallipoli. The head of the delagates, Moon Hyejin, told that their Turkey trip is an impressive experience for them and they would use this knowledge while evaluating the services in South Korea.
