| THE KOC GROUP"S SUPPORT TO CANAKKALE TOURISM |
| The KOC Group,one of the largest companies of Turkey, is going to restorate the Seddulbahir Castle of Canakkale. In March 18th, 2005 festivies of the Canakkale Naval Glory, The Prime Minister Recep Tayip ERDOGAN and The head of board of directors of KOC Holding, Mustafa KOC, has signed a contract in order to restorate the historical Seddulbahir Castle. Mr KOC told that the restoration work would start very soon and is planned to be completed in 4 years time. The Seddulbahir Castle was originally built by Ahmet Pasha in 1659 in the period of Khan Mehmet IV. The comprehensive renovation of Seddulbahir Castle would strenghten the increasing tourism potential of Canakkale. |
| THE EXCAVATION PERIOD OF THE ANCIENT TROIA WILL START ON JULY |
| It is announced that the year 2005 excavation period of the ancient city Troia will start on July. It is told that the excavation will be directed by the Professor of Tubingen University, Manfred KORFMAN, with a team of 70 archaeologists from 13 countries. It is planned to continue the work on the uncompleted areas, which was started in 2004. The excavation period for 2005 will finish on September 15, 2005. After the Hollywood movie "Troy", the famous ancient city is attracting increasing tourists from all over the world. |

| Canakkale is enjoying the rapidly increasing interest of the local tourists coming from all over the Turkey. The authorities claim that to extend the visit period of the school trips to the week days will mostly solve the traffic jam problem. |

| Each day the number cruises coming to Canakkale is increasing. The French flagged "The Le Levant" cruise with its 50 travellers came to Canakkale yesterday. The tourists visited the Historical Gallipoli National Park, The ancient Troia, and the city center. The french tourists told that they have enjoyed the impressive sites of Canakkale. After the daily trip, the cruise departed to Istanbul. |

| With his immense work on the excavations in the ancient Troia, Professor Korfman has become well-known all over the world, particularly in Germany and Turkey. Recently Professor KORFMAN was selected as the member of TUBA (Turkey Science Academy) in the last annual meeting. The authorities of the TUBA told that they are glad to wellcome Professor KORFMAN. Professor Korfman has not only several works on the Anatolian Culture, but also several studies on Aegean and the Mediterranean culture. His great efforts on the ancient city Troia have crucial influence in the selection of the ancient Troia as world"s culture heritage by UNESCO. |
| HISTORICAL WAR SHELTERS IN KILITBAHIR WILL BECOME MUSEUM |
| LIt is announced that the historical war sheltes in the Kilitbahir village of Canakkale that were used in the Gallipoli Campaign will be restorated for building museum. The shelters were built by the Ottoman Sultans ,Selim II., Ambdulmecid and Abdulhamid. The sheltes were also used in the Gallipoli Campaign as a guard against the British attacts. The authorities told that these historical shelters will be restorated in order to build a war museum. Doing so, the envoirement of the historical shelters will be organised in order to serve the rapidly increasing tourism potential of the historical peninsula. |
| PRIVATE MUSEUM SUPPORT TO THE CANAKKALE TOURISM |
| Ms. Sıdıka KOCAOĞLU is waiting help of the authorities in order to build a private museum related with ceramic models reflecting the etnographic properties of the local villages. Ms. Sıdıka KACAOĞLU told that she would like to settle this museum in the Seddulbahir village of the historical Gallipoli Peninsula. | PEACE AND FRENDSHIP TRAVEL OF GREEKS |
| 12 Greek with 5 boats has come to Canakkale when they had problem in one of the boat"s engine. The adventurous Greeks are wearing "The sea connects us" t-shirts. In their boats there are Turkey and Greece flags and "The sea connect us" slogan is also written on their boat. The had of the crew, Takis HARABOPOULOS, told that they had started their peace and friendship travel a week ago, would plan to travel most of the Greek islands and Turkish Aegean costs. Mr HARABOPOULOS added that they had an engine problem about 15 miles away of Canakkale, and they would carry on their journey soon. The arrival of the Peace and Friendship Greek crew is wellcomed very well by the Canakkale"s harbour authorities. The authorities told that every effort would be done in order to fix the engine problem as soon as possible. |

As being one of the important symbols of Canakkale, the famous historical bazaar with mirrors was taken into restoration about 4 years ago. Nowadays the historical bazaar is attracting thousands of tourists with its restorated original face. | HUGE GRANT FROM PROFESSOR KORFMAN |
| The death of Professor Manfred Korfman, who had headed the excavations in the ancient city Troia for 18 years, deeply upset everyone around the world. This week it is annouced that the library of Professor Korfman which includes 200 thousand books will be brought to Canakkale. In the meeting of the Canakkale Chamber of Trade and Industry, the responsible of Troia Excavation Committee, archeolog Rustem ASLAN, told that Professor Korfman has granted his grand library including 200 thousand valuable books to the Canakkale Tubingen Troia Association. Mr ASLAN added that they are looking for a suitable place in order to exhibit these valuable books. |
| THE RESTORATION WORK OF BOZCAADA CASTLE IS COMPLETED |
| Canakkale Culture and Tourism Directorship announced that the comprehensive restoration work of Bozcaada Castle, which was started in 1998, is recently completed. The authorities of Canakkale Culture and Tourism Directorship told that "Firstly, the restoration of the outside walls was completed in 2003, secondly the restoration of the inner walls and trenches was recently completed. | THE MYSTERY OF THE ANCIENT PARION |
| The findings of the 2005 excavation period of the ancient city Parion has been delivered to the Canakkale Archeology Museum. The head of the excavations team, Professor Cevat BASARAN from Ataturk University, told that in the excavation period of 2005, 4 ancient tombs had been found. Among those tombs, 2 of them were opened and several objects have been identified. Two golden crowns,which thought to be 2000 year old, two ancient gold coins which has the figure of "god of sun", bull figured necklace, a gold ring with valuable jewelery, earring which has eros figure on it, a bronze amphore, and a dagger were found in the ancient tombs. Furthermore 150 ancient object were identified in the 2005 excavation period of the ancient city Parion. The 2005 excavation period of the ancient city Parion will be completed on August 20. Professor Basaran claimed the biggest problem of the excavation team as the insufficient budget. |

| The famous formula 1 driver of BMW Williams Team, Mark WEBBER, came to Canakkale in order to visit the Gallipoli Historical National Park. Mr Webber came to the Gallipollipoli Peninsula from Istanbul early in the morning and visited the Lone Pine, and Anzac Cove Memorials. Mark Webber also traced the grave of his grandfather. Mr Webber told that he is extremely happy to be on the holy lands of the Gallipoli Peninsula. |

| Professor Manfred KORFMAN had been working on the ancient city Troia for 18 years and he had achieved great success with his finding in the national and international press. Professor KORFMAN was working for Tubingen University, Germany and working as an advisor for Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Archeology Department. Professor KORFMAN had several awards during his long lasting studies on the ancient Troia such as "Special Success Award" of Turkey Historical, Cultural Heritage and Art Awards in 1998 and "Encouraging Living Together Award" of Helga and Edzart Reuter Association in 2001. Professor Korfman had performed great work on the establishment of Canakkale - Tubingen - Troia Association, was nominated as the chairman in 2004.It is annouced that the funeral will be on tuesday in Germany. |
| THE HISTORICAL DIVING IS STARTING |
| The Sunk Battleships of the Gallipoli Campaign have been explored day by day. 90 years after the Gallipoli Campaign of the first World War, the famous sunk Brititish Battleship "Goliath" will be viewed in the coordination of documentary producer, Savas KARAKAS, Tukey Underwater Archeology Society (TINA), and professional sailor, Enes EDIS. Mr EDES will provide the technical details of the diving to the Goliath. Mr KARAKAS told that the Sunk British Battleship "Goliath" will be viewed in the impressive waters of Morto Bay for the first time after the Gallipoli Campaign. The videos of the diving to the "Goliath" will be shown on the National Geographic TV as a documentary. |
| EXCAVATIONS GET STARTED IN THE PARION ANCIENT CITY |
| The archeological excavation period in the Parion ancient city is started in the Kemer village of Canakkale. With the permission of Cultural Heritages and Museums General Directorship, the excavation team will explore the lifestyle and culture of the ancient city Parion. The excavation team will be directed by Professor Cevat BASARAN from Atataurk University with 7 academics and 35 archeology students. The excavation period will continue for 45 days. Professor BASARAN has been working on the ancient city Parion for about 9 years and stated the goal of the excavation period of the 2005 as to reach the graves appeared in the necropole area of the ancient city Parion |
| THE CAMPUS LIKE A HOLIDAY VILLAGE |
| The Dardonos Campus of Canakkale Onsekizmart University is serving like a holiday village in the summer period. The campus wellcomes not only the university students but also the tourists and local people around. The Dardonos Campus is located between Canakkale - Izmir road, and can serve 1000 people in its nice beach. Students, and Academics can also benefit from the accomodation facilities of the Dardonos Campus. The Dardonos settlement is located on 390.000 meter square area with beach, sport, catering and accomodation facilities. The director of the Dardonos Campus, Selahattin BOZKURT, told that there are 68 rooms and 100 pax capacity seminar room in the settelement. The university organises national and international meetings and summer schools here. In addition, the campus offers excellent opportunities for water sports such as wind surfing. In fine weather, staff, students and other local residents make use of the beach and catering facilities for a pleasant day out, and those from farther afield can enjoy a peaceful holiday here. Up to 280 guests can be accommodated in the bungalow terraces and the dining and conference halls have a total seating capacity of 500. There is a games and television room and the sports hall has facilities for playing basketball and volleyball. There is also a tennis court and an open air swimming pool. A disco and bar provide entertaintment facilities. The Faculties of Fisheries and Agriculture make use of both the land and the sea at this campus to carry out various educational and scientific projects. In addition, students of the College of Tourism and Hotel Management are provided with opportunities for practical training. |
| WINE PRODUCTION IN THE INTEPE VILLAGE OF CANAKKALE |
| It is announced that the factory that would be built in the intepe district of Canakkale has a capacity of 100 tones wine production. The chief of Intepe Muniplicity, Alaattin OZKURNAZ, told that in the Canakkale province although the most fertile grapes are grown in Bozcaada and Intepe district, there is no wine production in the Intepe due to lack of any factory. Mr OZKURNAZ told their projects as follow."Last year we have produced 7 tones boutique home made wines with 50 family in Intepe. With the positive results we have obtained with this boutique production, we have decided to build a wine factory in Intepe. "In intepe about 3 thousand tones grapes is grown, and with this potential the local people would produce their own in the propesed boutique wine factory. Mr OZKURNAZ told that they have contacts with the Italian authorities from the Nemi city in order to export the produced wines in Intepe. Mr OZKURNAZ added that their goal is to make Intepe as the second center after Bozcaada for wine production in the Canakkale province. |
